Why kill off the chickens if the eggs are still 'safe to eat'? Is it only a fear that rampant bird flu will maybe lead to some horrible variant? If so how likely is that worst case outcome? I believe I heard the govt was going to give half a billion to one of the pharmaceutical companies to research bird flu vaccines. As a country, with egg prices and research funding we are spending a lot of money on this event, or fear of a future event, imo.
