One time at school I was talking with a group of friends, which included this really cute girl that was in one of my classes. Now I had never really been into her, but one of my friends still asked her that if I wanted to, would she go out with me. So she thought for a few seconds, and then said no. But honestly the couple seconds of thought required to give that response was enough to boost my self esteem a ton.
