These types of 'kidnappers' are usually threatening, manipulative and convincing. In my country, there were cases of parents receiving phone calls that their 'children' were kidnapped while walking home either to or from schools. The parents could even hear their 'children' on the background screaming, crying and sounds of yelling and beating. Of course, these parents were very worried and frightened. They were told not to call police or else their 'children' would be killed. The kidnappers demanded a ransom to be placed at a specified place before releasing the 'children'. Their children did not carry cell phones so there was no way of contacting them to verify the actual situation. Some parents did pay the ransom and some reported to the police.
